Common Side Effects:
Nausea
Diarrhea
Headache
Upper respiratory tract infection (e.g., common cold or flu)
Cold symptoms (e.g., stuffy nose, sneezing, sore throat)
Some of these side effects may resolve on their own as the body adjusts to the medication. If symptoms worsen or linger, contact your healthcare provider.
Serious Side Effects:
Allergic reactions (e.g., hives, difficulty breathing, facial swelling)
Inability to completely empty the bladder (urinary retention)
Pain or burning during urination
Call your doctor or seek emergency medical attention in some situations (e.g., difficulty breathing) if you experience any of these side effects.
The risk of urinary retention may be higher in individuals also taking medications with antimuscarinic effects (e.g., oxybutynin, tolterodine, solifenacin). It’s important to talk with your healthcare provider about all your medications, including over-the-counter products, to ensure they can be used safely with Gemtesa.
The typical dose of Gemtesa is one 75 mg tablet taken once daily. It can be taken with or without food. If you have trouble swallowing tablets, you can crush the tablet and mix it with a tablespoon of applesauce and swallow immediately. Always take Gemtesa with a full glass of water. Follow your doctor’s instructions exactly.
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember, but skip it if it's close to your next dose. Do not take two doses at once.
Seek emergency medical help or call the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222.
Tell your doctor about all the medications you are taking, especially digoxin or digitalis, as they may interact with Gemtesa. Medications with anticholinergic or antimuscarinic (e.g., oxybutynin, diphenhydramine) effects can also interact with Gemtesa.
Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, as the safety of Gemtesa during these times is not fully established. The potential risks of taking Gemtesa may outweigh the benefits.
Store Gemtesa at 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F). Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of sight and reach of children.
