Lac-Hydrin (ammonium lactate) lotion is a medication used as a moisturizer to treat or prevent dry, rough, scaly, itchy skin. In some instances, your healthcare provider may recommend using Lac-Hydrin for other conditions like minor skin irritations (such as diaper rash or skin burns from radiation therapy). Ammonium lactate is a humectant. It helps manage eczema symptoms by removing dead skin cells and promoting skin moisturization.
To comply with Canadian International Pharmacy Association regulations you are permitted to order a 3-month supply or the closest package size available based on your personal prescription. read more
While ammonium lactate lotion is generally considered relatively safe during pregnancy, clinical studies related directly to safety during pregnancy are lacking. Before starting any new medications, including topical medications like lotions, it’s important to talk with your healthcare provider to ensure the benefits are likely to outweigh the potential risks. Similar caution should be used among breastfeeding mothers, as the medication may be passed through breastmilk.
Lac-Hydrin can cause sensitivity to sunlight, which may also increase the risk of skin cancer. It’s advised to minimize use in areas with direct sun exposure and cover these areas with clothing when possible.
It’s recommended to avoid use on areas with inflamed or damaged skin, including recently shaved areas.
Use only as directed by the prescribing healthcare provider. Avoid contact with eyes, lips, and other mucous membranes.
The most common side effects of Lac-Hydrin lotion are local skin reactions, including:
Stinging
Inflammation and swelling
Skin peeling
Less common reactions include:
Rash
Petechiae (small colored spots on the skin caused by bleeding under the skin)
Dry skin
Changes in skin pigmentation or color
If the product is causing irritation that doesn’t resolve quickly or worsens, it’s important to talk with your healthcare provider.
