Aklief Cream (trifarotene) is primarily prescribed to:
Treat moderate to severe acne vulgaris on the face, neck/trunk, and back.
The manufacturer states that one pump is typically enough to cover all areas of the face and chin. If additional areas require treatment, two pumps are often needed to cover the upper back, shoulders, and chest. One additional pump may be needed to cover the lower back.
Before Using Aklief Cream, Inform Your Healthcare Provider If You:
Have irritated or damaged skin, such as eczema, cuts, or sunburn.
Are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. It is unknown if Aklief Cream (trifarotene) may harm your unborn baby, so it’s important to talk with your healthcare provider about managing the risks and benefits of therapy.
Are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed. If breastfeeding, use Aklief Cream (trifarotene) sparingly and avoid applying it to the nipple and areola.
Interactions:
Inform your healthcare provider about any medications, including acne treatments, over-the-counter products, and supplements you are taking. Some medications, including other skin treatments, may increase the likelihood of side effects.
Local skin reactions tend to be more common and may be more severe during the first four weeks of use. Contact your healthcare provider if skin irritation persists or worsens with use. In some instances, stopping the medication briefly before restarting or switching to an alternative may be required. Skin irritation symptoms include:
Redness
Scaling
Dryness
Stinging
Burning
Itching, especially during the first four weeks of use.
Aklief cream increases sensitivity to sunlight and can increase the risk of developing a sunburn.
Managing Side Effects:
Use a moisturizer to reduce irritation.
Minimize unprotected exposure to sunlight and UV light sources (e.g., tanning beds). Use sunscreen or protective clothing if exposure cannot be avoided.
Inform your healthcare provider if side effects persist or worsen.
Store Aklief Cream (trifarotene) at room temperature (68° to 77°F / 20° to 25°C).
Protect from heat and keep the container tightly closed.
Keep out of reach of children.
